Adding waves (and subtracting?)

So what happens when two waves meet?  (Sounds like a start to a poem or song)

We get wave summation - which can result in some neat things like noise cancelling headphones, rogue waves, and just for phun if we absorb all the sound waves, you get the quietest room in the world...
