Physics is about studying how the universe works, and since you're in it, it's really about understanding you and the world you live in. Hopefully you'll find this very interesting! Seek to improve your learning by polishing each portfolio objective, each online text assignment, and then by noticing physics in your life!

32 33 Kinetic versus Elastic energy storage

How can we use a cart track to compare elastic and kinetic energy storage modes?

1. Set up your track with feet and an end stop and the motion detector...
2. Adjust your plunger cart to a springiness that works for you :-)
3. Now figure out how to organize your data collection - make sure to address the questions below...
((HERE'S A LINK TO A SAMPLE DATA TABLE))
How will you measure and calculate the elastic energy input (how will you find the spring constant?)
How will you measure the maximum velocity (and the kinetic energy) of the system?
Set up a data table showing your variables, calculations, and measurements - if you control the mass, make sure to note it for your calculations...

4.  Plot ENERGY vs v, what shape is it? Now try to linearize it. What is your slope & intercept?

Share your work (and your mass!!!) on the class board.
